Many diplomatic staff from embassies in Thailand try to understand more about the culture of the country they are in.

Most of them do a 2 or 3 year spell in their respective countries. Martina Baues from the German Embassy in Thailand really used her time in Thailand to deeply study the art of muaythai.

From May 2009 to February 2012, Martina trained an average of 4 hours a week in all aspects of muaythai, as a competition sport, for fitness, self-defence and as a cultural art form. She also represented the German embassy at many cultural events especially when muaythai was involved. The President of the WMC General Chetta Thanajaro and the President of IFMA Dr. Sakchye Tapsuwan officially awarded her the 6th Khan in muaythai.

Vice President of the WMC, former world champion Stephan Fox had the honour of training with her on many occasions and said “Every session she put in 100% and like a true German showed a never die attitude”.
