The East Asian Muaythai Championships 2025 officially launched today at the iconic Queen Elizabeth Stadium, uniting eight nations for four days of world-class action. Under the powerful theme “Home Ground · Fight for Hong Kong,” the event promises unforgettable battles and an electrifying showcase of Asia’s finest Muaythai talent.

Organised by the Hong Kong Muaythai Association (HKMTA)  the sole recognised Muaythai federation in Hong Kong, China by both the National Olympic Committee and the Sports Authority  the Championships are sanctioned by IFMA, FAMA,WMC and HKMTA, and form an important annual highlight on the Asian Muaythai calendar. For over 30 years, HKMTA has been at the forefront of developing Muaythai in Hong Kong, cultivating athletes, building events, and strengthening the sport at every level.

Yesterday’s Team Manager Meeting, chaired by Jason Fan, Chairman of HKMTA, finalised schedules and event logistics. Importantly, it reaffirmed that athlete health, safety, and fair play remain the top priorities, in full alignment with IFMA standards.

HKMTA President Neville Kotewell praised the strong regional turnout and emphasised Hong Kong’s readiness to host a Championship of the highest calibre.

Hong Kong: A Muaythai Powerhouse

Over the past years, Hong Kong has emerged as one of Asia’s most dynamic nations in Muaythai. Under the leadership of President Neville Kotewell and Chairman Jason Fan, HKMTA has strengthened grassroots development, expanded athlete pathways, and increased both professional and WMC-sanctioned events.

But beyond sporting achievements, HKMTA continues to demonstrate its deep commitment to the community. Following the tragic Wang Fuk Court fire in Tai Po District on 26 November 2025, athletes and coaches united to support affected families. IFMA extends its heartfelt condolences to the victims and their loved ones, and pays tribute to the Muaythai community for stepping up in solidarity.

Rallying the Fans: Press Conference at Lee Gardens

To build momentum, HKMTA hosted a vibrant press conference at Lee Gardens in Causeway Bay, bringing together athletes, coaches, officials, and media. The event ignited public excitement, inviting the people of Hong Kong to fill the stadium and stand behind their home athletes.

These Championships are not only about competition   they are about unity, pride, and the spirit of Hong Kong.
