Bui Yen Ly Vietnam winning today!

The women of muaythai were in action today alongside their male counterparts at the Asian Indoor Martial Arts Games in Ashgabat.

Another action-packed day across two rings for muaythai athletes from Asia and Oceania, with plenty for the home crowd to cheer about.

First into the ring was Vietnamese and The World Games champion Bui Yen Ly taking on Carissa Tarapen from The Philippinnes. A solid win for Bui on points using her trademark ‘teep’ kick to great effect.

Turkmenistan’s Selbi Jumayewa faced Pan Ting Wei, Taipei in an exciting bout, with Selbi taking a clear win on points. And her teammate Yanyl Kawisowa, silver medalist from the IFMA World Cup last year, took a dramatic win against Taipei’s Chiao-En Hung at 54kg.

At 60kg Iran’s Saeedah Ghaffari defeated Mert Ann Geli Bulaong, The Philippines in a high-paced bout. And at 60kgs Thai champion Wihantamma ‘Sawsing’ Ratchadaphon won convincingly against Lebanon’s Kinda Fattal.

In the mens’ divisions Yelaman Sayassatov, The World Games champion was in action against Ali Kinanah, Afghanistan. Yelaman took the win on points, with strong body-kick and low-kick combinations.

In the 57kg quarter-final Philip Delarmino, The Philippines took an solid points victory against Uzbek athlete Jakhangir Yuldashev over three rounds.

The crowd really got behind the heavyweight athletes, cheering eveyrone on regardless of nationality. Tahiti’s Lenoir Altotea   – these Games are the first time Oceania teams compete under the AIMAG banner – had a tough bout against Jordan’s Mohammad Al-Barri, losing out on points.
