Svetlana Vinnikova Russia facing Marja Bardo Croaita

Day three of the European Championships saw action from the women’s divisions, and men across junior and senior levels. The athletes also got to see some impressive machinery as the Harley Davidson festival kicks into gear in the rest of the pavilion grounds.

The women’s bouts opened the day. At 63.5kg Svetlana Vinnikova from Russia, world champion 2018 defeated Marja Bodac (Croatia) on points, working well on the inside clinch. Her team-mate Anastasia Nepianidi is also through.

Turkey also saw two women through to the next round – former world champion Behida Tacyildiz at 67kg and Beyza Nur Karatepe at 63.5kg. Team Turkey also did well in the male divisions sending through seven athletes.

Both Sweden’s women in action today went through – Sara Matsson and Erica Bjornstrand. And the other winners came from Ukraine –  Viktoria Yevtushenko and Belarus – Aleksandra Sitnkova.

Next up were the young boys competing in 16-17 year old division. Many of these young athletes are at their first international event, and it’s been a great experience for them here in beautiful Prague.

Among the highlights were Ukraine’s Vladyslav Kunyk against  Mikhail Kutrunov (Russia) which came down to the final point. Vladyslav took the win on 29 to 28 points. Steban Guba from host team Czech Republic also took a one-point win in a great battle with Artem Kuzeev also from Russia.

In the senior male bouts Denmark’s Axel Vincent won his bout against Jawad Jamali from Belgium at 57kg, as did his team-mate Nicolai Woltemijer Bartholin. Four of the five Portuguese athletes competing today moved on including Miguel Temporario.

Some smaller teams also had a good day like Amin El Gharbi going through for Austria, and Din Haziza for Israel.

Leo the Czech Lion was also much in evidence again today, sparring (gently!) with the athletes around the arena. No biting.
