81kg podium Pic Ukraine Muaythai Federation

Muaythai athletes travelled to Cancun, Mexico from all around the world for ten days of intense competition but at the end gold can only go to the very best. IFMA congratulates all those who stepped on the medal podiums for your hard work and dedication to muaythai.

Medals went to 19 countries at elite levels in men’s and women’s divisions crossing Europe, Latin America , North America and Asia.

Stephan Fox, IFMA General secretary said this shows clearly how muaythai is growing and spreading across the globe. He pointed to medal positions by Colombia and host nation Mexico as a sign that the traditional muaythai powerhouses face serious competition now from elsewhere.

Turkey claimed their first gold in the elite male division when The World Games champion Ali Dogan took gold  at 81kg, this adds to their gold in the female division in 2017 with Behida Tacyildiz. Hungary took silver in the 67kg division when Norbert Speth became the first person from that country to make the finals.

Host nation Mexico stood twice on the podium at this level when Maria Raminirez Sachez and Osvaldo Rangel Chavez both claimed bronze in their divisions.

Russia took the overall Best Team award claiming 11 golds across the divisions, winning heavily in the female division.
