After a wonderful week of muaythai action from student athletes it was time to close the Arena, so even as the medal winners celebrated they were sad to see the end of this special week in Pattaya, Thailand.
The ceremony was opened by the cute Elephant Mascot wearing the FISU emblem, leading in a large group of Thai dancers and musicians. This was followed by the 23 flags of the nations from where the 98 students representing 71 universities were from.
And of course one last opportunity to wave the FISU flag and remind everyone they now belong the university sports family of FISU. The Thai Deputy Minister for Sport and Tourism Khun Ittiphol Khunplome did the honours.
The ceremony was again like the Opening a mix of sports and traditional culture to show the dual position which martial arts like muaythai hold in the hearts of the people.
All the student athletes watched from the stands, with the medal winners holding their own miniature version of the Elephant mascot. And while the FISU stars shone everywhere during the ceremony, it’s fair to say all eyes were on those shiny medals as the first WUC muaythai champions finished their tournament.
This beautiful ceremony and interviews with participants can be watched back here on IFMA Youtube.
