Celebrating December 5th as a Day of Remembrance and Gratitude to His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej
As December 5th is celebrated as Thailand’s National Father’s Day, the nation unites to honour the birthday and enduring legacy of His Majesty the late King Bhumibol Adulyadej. Since his passing on 13 October 2016, this day has become a profound moment of remembrance for King Rama IX a monarch whose wisdom, compassion, and unwavering devotion to his people have left an indelible mark on the Kingdom and the world.
Throughout his lifetime, His Majesty King Bhumibol was deeply revered not only within the Kingdom of Thailand but across the international community. He is remembered as the guiding father of the Thai nation and the beloved father of the current monarchy under His Majesty King Maha Vajiralongkorn. Through decades of change and challenge, King Rama IX stood as a symbol of unity, stability, and hope, leading his nation with humility, intelligence, and boundless compassion.
From his Royal Coronation in 1949, His Majesty navigated a rapidly evolving world shaped by the aftermath of World War II. With resilience and vision, he guided the Thai people through countless trials from economic hardships to natural disasters always placing the well-being of his over 60 million people at the centre of his life’s work.
Renowned globally for his intellect and innovative spirit, His Majesty initiated hundreds of development projects across the country. Many bore his own design patents, each created with a singular purpose: to improve the lives of his people. His philosophy of Sufficiency Economy continues to inspire Thailand today, offering a timeless blueprint for sustainable, resilient, and compassionate living.
His Majesty also had a lifelong passion for sport. Having grown up in Lausanne, the Olympic Capital, he deeply understood sport’s power to educate, unite, and inspire. We remain profoundly humbled and grateful that Muaythai received his Royal Patronage an honour that continues to guide our mission and strengthen our commitment to upholding the values he cherished.
On behalf of our Muaythai family, we extend our warmest wishes for a meaningful Father’s Day. Today, we honour all fathers and father figures while paying deep respect to the life, legacy, and immeasurable contributions of His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej.
Where a father stands with honour, a nation stands with strength.
