Norway prides itself as one of the strongest countries in the Nordic region remembering a very successful SportAccord Combat Games 2012 where Fatima Pinto raised the Norwegian flag at the podium. This gold medal put Norway on the Muaythai map of the world for many years. Norwegian athletes have been participants of the IFMA events for many years since contributing to the image of Norway as a strong country in the martial arts.

Last week the efforts and performance of the Norwegian muaythai paid off when the National Norwegian Martial Arts Federation which is a part of the Norwegian Olympic Committee recognised muaythai.

The President of the Norwegian Muaythai Federation Mr. Chris Nilsen said that 10 year work resulted in this important achievement and a lot now has to be done to conform to the elite level of the sport in Norway.

The Secretary General of Norway’s Martial Arts Federation, Trond Søvik said that they believe this strengthens the framework conditions for Norwegian martial arts and provides more efficient resource management.
