The Australian Muaythai Championship in Melbourne has concluded with resounding success, marking a defining milestone in the continued rise and evolution of muaythai in Australia.

Established in 1995, Muaythai Australia, the sole nationally recognised federation under IFMA and aligned with the International Olympic Committee, continues to lead the development of the sport from grassroots to elite uniting tradition, sport, and inclusion under one unified vision.

Following a nationwide qualification pathway across all six Australian states, close to 400 athletes earned their place at the national finals in Melbourne. Over the course of the championship, nearly 300 bouts were contested, showcasing exceptional skill, discipline, and the true spirit of muaythai.

The event stood as a powerful example of inclusivity, proudly welcoming special and para athletes, alongside the cultural disciplines of Wai Kru and Mae Muay, reinforcing muaythai’s identity as both a competitive sport and a rich cultural heritage.

Beyond the field of play, the championship generated significant national and international engagement, with over 900,000 social media views within one week and more than 1,200 spectators in attendance creating an electric atmosphere throughout the event.

The medal standings reflected the strength and depth of the national system, with athletes from across Australia demonstrating the success of a structured and unified development pathway.

The President of Muaythai Australia, Nick Atkins, extended sincere appreciation to Muaythai Victoria for the outstanding organisation of the event, as well as to the coaches, clubs, and gyms whose dedication continues to build the foundation of the sport. Recognition was also given to the referees and officials for upholding the highest standards of fairness and safety, alongside the medical teams, volunteers, and fans whose support brought the championship to life.

Above all, tribute was paid to the athletes, the heart, soul, and fighting spirit of muaythai.
Their courage, respect, and performances throughout the championship embodied the very essence of the sport.

The newly crowned champions will now represent Australia on the world stage at the upcoming IFMA World Championships and IFMA Youth World Championships, carrying with them the pride, determination, and true Aussie spirit.

With strong participation, meaningful inclusion, and a world-class standard of competition, the Australian Muaythai Championship stands as a landmark moment and a clear signal that muaythai in Australia is not only growing, but thriving.
