The 2025 IFMA Youth World Championships in Abu Dhabi continued its powerful celebration of culture and sport with the highly anticipated Wai Kru Workshop, held on Yas Island. With athletes from over 100 nations gathered in one place, the event was a stunning tribute to the spiritual and cultural heart of Muaythai.

The workshop was officially opened by IFMA Secretary General and AIMS President Stephan Fox, who warmly welcomed H.E. Mr. Sorayut Chasombat, Ambassador of Thailand to the UAE, underscoring the deep cultural ties between Thailand and the global Muaythai community.

The arena came alive with an electrifying Muay Boran performance by the Lanna Muaythai Fight Team from Thailand, whose acrobatic display showcased the elegance, power, and tradition of Muaythai’s ancient roots. The performance set the tone for a morning of reverence, unity, and learning.

Leading the workshop were esteemed members of the IFMA Culture and Heritage Commission:
– Ajan Sawaeng
– Ajan Somphong
– Ajan Ryan

Together, they guided the young nak muay through the traditional Wai Kru, a ritual that honors teachers, ancestors, and the art itself. This practice is a cornerstone of IFMA’s commitment to preserving Muaythai’s cultural identity, especially among youth.

At the conclusion of the workshop, every athlete was presented with a certificate from the Thai Masters—a meaningful token of participation and respect that will be cherished for years to come.

This unforgettable gathering not only deepened the athletes’ connection to Muaythai’s heritage but also served as a powerful segue into the upcoming Wai Kru and Mai Muay competitions, which are quickly approaching on the championship schedule. These cultural divisions continue to grow in popularity and prestige, reflecting IFMA’s holistic approach to sport—where tradition, respect, and artistry stand alongside athletic excellence.

As the sun rises over Yas Island, the spirit of Muaythai shines brighter than ever—one world, one Muaythai.
