Muaythai’s centuries-old traditions remain a pillar of IFMA, and preserving and enhancing these customs as they are passed down through generations is essential. This dedication to tradition is why Wai Kru, the pre-fight ritual, has become a full medal sport within IFMA over the past eight years.

The Wai Kru competition offers a unique platform for athletes to showcase their artistry and skill, providing an opportunity for those who do not wish to compete in combat Muaythai to shine in their own right.

This year’s finals feature athletes from 32 countries, with the finalists set to compete for gold, silver, and bronze medals. The competition not only highlights Muaythai’s rich cultural heritage but also demonstrates IFMA’s commitment to providing equal opportunities across all disciplines of the sport.

The FINALS will see:
U23 Female Wai Kru: Yan Jia Chi (MAS), Rhichein Yosorez Lrena (PHI), Asal Zaferanlou (IRI) and Salma Aljneibi (UAE).

U23 Male Wai Kru: LJ Rafael Yasay (PHI), Son Nguyen Hoang (VIE), Ahmed Abbas (IRQ) and Ayoub Lakrami (UAE).

Senior Female Wai Kru: Islay Erika Bomagao (PHI), Lieu Pham Thi Bich (VIE), Iryna Ladynenko (UKR) and Athanasia Kantalaft (GRE).

Adding to the prestige and global reach of the event, this year’s competition was broadcast live on the Olympic Channel, further promoting the cultural significance of Muaythai on an international stage.
