Lausanne, Switzerland – SportAccord, the global sports event organization headquartered in the Olympic Capital of Lausanne, brings together over 120 International Federations (IFs) from across both Olympic and non-Olympic sports. Among its esteemed members since 2006 is the International Federation of Muaythai Associations (IFMA), whose work has led to Muaythai’s recognition as an official sport by the global sport community.

The SportAccord Convention, the most influential annual gathering in the world of sport, has long been a vital platform for global sport leaders. The event draws representatives from the International Olympic Committee (IOC), International Federations, rights holders, host cities, and other industry stakeholders. It is where business meetings, networking, knowledge exchange, and strategic partnerships take shape, shaping the future of the global sports landscape.

For over 20 years, IFMA has been a constant presence at SportAccord. Since 2003, IFMA has participated in every SportAccord Convention, attending as both an exhibitor and delegate. Through these events, IFMA has worked diligently to promote Muaythai as both a cultural art form and a competitive sport. The exposure gained at SportAccord has been instrumental in Muaythai’s inclusion in prestigious events such as the World Combat Games, the World Games, and FISU competitions—each of which is IOC-recognized and patronized.
Through continuous networking and strategic meetings, IFMA has built critical partnerships with stakeholders across the sports industry, secured host cities, and even engaged with organizations like WADA (World Anti-Doping Agency) and the IOC. These connections have been crucial in raising the profile of Muaythai on the global stage.
Dr. Sakchye Tapsuwan, President of IFMA, emphasized the importance of SportAccord for the organization: “SportAccord is one of IFMA’s most important events of the year. It provides us with the opportunity to exchange knowledge, meet the major players in the world of sport, and strengthen our position in the global sports family. For over 20 years, we have been proud to be part of this incredible network.”
Looking ahead, the IFMA family is filled with excitement for SportAccord 2025, which will take place in Istanbul. The event promises to be another milestone in Muaythai’s continued journey to greater international recognition and influence.
