Today, the European Muaythai Federation (EMF) General Meeting took place alongside the 2024 European Championships in Pristina, Kosovo, hosted at the Mercure Hotel. Bringing together member federations from across Europe, this significant assembly facilitated updates and discussions crucial to the future of Muaythai in the region.
The meeting opened with a roll call, followed by a warm welcome address by EMF President Mr. Hasan Yildiz of Turkey. In his remarks, Mr. Yildiz thanked the member federations for their dedication to developing Muaythai in Europe, providing updates on current projects, including the Muaythai Elites European Super League Project, and news on the bids for the 2025 and 2026 European Championships.
IFMA President Dr. Sakchye Tapsuwan contributed a video message, congratulating EMF member federations on their achievements and reaffirming IFMA’s support for European Muaythai. His message recognised the federation’s progress and its essential role in advancing the sport on the continent.
IFMA Secretary General Stephan Fox joined remotely, delivering an opening address that praised the new EMF Board’s commitment. He shared updates on IFMA’s developments within the Olympic Movement, highlighting the expanding recognition and global opportunities for Muaythai. Fox reaffirmed IFMA’s dedication to supporting Muaythai’s growth within the Olympic structure.
In addition, IFMA Director General Charissa Tynan provided vital updates on the 2025 event calendar and the qualification pathways for The World Games 2025. Her presentation outlined the event schedule, emphasising European engagement in international competitions and aligning member federations with IFMA’s strategic objectives as they prepare for The World Games.
An exciting highlight was the presentation by EMF Vice President and President of the Pan Hellenic Muaythai Federation, Mr. John Papadopoulos, who shared plans for the next edition of the European Championships, scheduled for 2025 in Athens, Greece. Mr. Papadopoulos expressed enthusiasm about hosting the event in Athens, promising an exceptional experience that will showcase Greece’s rich cultural heritage and commitment to Muaythai. His presentation included an overview of the venue and proposed activities, underlining Athens as an ideal destination that will provide athletes, officials, and fans a memorable championship experience.
EMF Secretary General Mr. Davide Carlot presented the Secretary General’s report, covering organisational advancements and EMF’s primary initiatives. Updates on the ongoing European Championships were delivered by the event Technical Delegate Mr. Erdogan Aydin, highlighting the spirit of collaboration essential to the event’s success. He reported on the various challenges faced thus far and ensured that the IFMA were working hard to support the LOC chaired by Shpejtim Ahmetaj, President of the Kosovo Muaythai Federation. Additionally, Mr. Carlot provided a financial overview, discussing membership fees and the federation’s fiscal sustainability.
The meeting concluded with discussions on future projects and events, with closing remarks that underscored the unity and shared vision among EMF member federations.
