The Korea Muaythai Association (KMTA), recognized by the National Olympic Committee of Korea and the sole muaythai federation in Korea recognized by IFMA, showcased an impressive Muaythai demonstration at Cheonggye Square, located in the heart of Seoul.
The ‘Sawasdee Seoul Thai Festival 2024 (T-POP Story),’ hosted by the Royal Thai Embassy in Korea, took place from October 5-6th. During this event, the KMTA captivated audiences with their Muaythai performances. A total of 21 performers from the KMTA demonstration team presented a variety of acts for about an hour each day, including ‘Wai Kru,’ ‘Mai Muay,’ ‘Pad Working,’ and ‘Practical Self-defense Demonstrations.’
Notably, the demonstration team embraced the gender equality theme promoted by the International Olympic Committee (IOC) and the United Nations (UN), featuring an equal number of male and female performers, excluding the team leader, Mr. Seong-il OH. Among the performers was the youngest Muaythai practitioner, 7-year-old Se-chan OH, who showcased the skills he had developed over time.
As a national member of the IOC-recognized International Federation of Muaythai Associations (IFMA), the KMTA expressed its commitment to further strengthening its cooperation with the Royal Thai Embassy in Korea and accelerating the promotion and popularization of Muaythai in the Republic of Korea.
