The 2024 Asian Muaythai Open Cup kicked off with a spectacular Opening Ceremony at the Taipei Municipal Gymnasium, showcasing the vibrant culture of Chinese Taipei. The event was graced by athletes and delegates from Hong Kong, the Philippines, Mongolia, Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, South Korea, India and Vietnam.
The ceremony featured a mesmerizing traditional lion dance to bless the event, a powerful Chinese Taipei war drum performance, and the elegant three prince dance, symbolizing protection and safety for all participants. Additionally, the audience was treated to an indigenous musical performance from the Hualin region of Chinese Taipei, adding to the cultural richness of the event.
In a special tribute to Thai culture, the Chinese Taipei youth performed the Wai Kru, a traditional Thai dance, to honor all the delegates and dignitaries in attendance.
VIPs from the National Olympic Committee of Chinese Taipei, the Ministry of Education, Taipei City Government, the Chinese Sports Journalists Association, and various sports and martial arts organizations within the Olympic family were present to support this historic event.
The ceremony also included the giving of awards to members of the government, the Sports Ministry, and the IFMA executive board members, further highlighting the significance of the occasion and honoring those who have contributed to the development of Muaythai.
IFMA Vice President Sue Glassey, FAMA General Secretary Mervyn Tan, IFMA Technical Delegate Abby Nelson, IFMA International Coordinator Mohamad Amr, and IFMA Sport Director Janice Lyn attended the ceremony, showing their support for this momentous occasion.
