The second day of the African Muaythai Championships started with a joint demonstration of the cultural performance team from Thailand Egypt to cross promote the cultural elements of the Motherland and the hosting country.
The second day was telecasted live on national TV in which the first gold medals were up for grabs and we saw some outstanding performances in both male and female divisions.
The two most outstanding females of the night were Laroussi Ichrak from Morocco and Abdellaoui Ghofrane from Tunisia, both females receiving a standing ovation.
In the male division, it was Egypt’s Ahmed Sameh and Libya’s Mohammed Alkharraz who fought with heart and soul in a nail-biting match which could have gone either way. In the end, it was the home team’s Ammed Sameh who took the win and sent the crowd roaring in celebration.
One of the closest fights of the evening was between Basta Abdelmouneme from Algeria and Saadi Abdellah from Morocco which went to a close decision to Morocco with a rematch already in discussion.
The IFMA Sport Director Janice Lyn, former Chair of the Athletes’ Commission praised the development of muaythai in Africa especially female muaythai which is very much on par with the rest of the world due to the close cooperation between the African Muaythai Union and IFMA over the last years which now have shown fruits of its labor.
