To continue the ever growing popularity of muaythai as a sport and cultural art form, 2016 again has many exciting events and activities in the planning.

The World Championships will take place in Sweden with over 100 countries expected to participate. This important event is also a qualifier for the 2017 World Games which is under patronage of the International Olympic Committee.

The Asian Beach Games will take place in Danang, Vietnam under the banner of the Olympic Council of Asia. Over 30 NOC’s have already confirmed participation in the muaythai tournament at the games.

The European Championships will take place in Croatia while the Pan American Championships will be held in in Mexico, and the African Championships in Morocco.

IFMA President Dr. Sakchye Tapsuwan stated that IFMA and muaythai can be deservedly proud of the achievements so far, in it’s recognition by FISU, the inclusion in the official sport programme of the World Games, the full inclusion in the Asian Indoor and Martial Art Games, Asian Beach Games and World Championship programme of FISU. All these events recognised by the IOC affirms us that muaythai is very close to IOC recognition.

Muaythai is also extremely proud that AIMS has received provisional recognition from the IOC, and that muaythai has played an important part in this process.
